Josh Sommerton grabbed a last gasp equaliser deep in added time at the end of the 90 to earn Salisbury a point on the road to Aveley.

Callum Watts had given Salisbury a first half lead, before two second half goals from David Kawa and David Hicks had turned the game on it’s head.

Salisbury started brightly with the pace of Aiden Elliott-Wheeler in particular seeing plenty of the ball.

The opening goal of the game, though, came from the other side of the pitch. A quick throw-in ended up with Callum Watts just inside the box, and the Salisbury midfielder hit a stunner into the top right-hand corner.

Aveley grew into the game after the opening goal and caused problems, especially down their left wing.

Their first real chance came in the 21st minute when Brown headed past Byrne, but Owen Dore was alive to the danger and cleared off the line.

Playing on the break, Aiden Elliott-Wheeler was denied a good block by Holden when he broke into the box after a good flick on from Craig Fasanmade with half an hour on the clock.

Aveley were creating chances at the other end too – Kawa probably should have done better when he dragged wide in the 36th minute. The same player then saw a shot deflected wide three minutes later.

Dan Fitchett had the final chance of the half. Another good break from Elliott-Wheeler saw him burst down the left flank – his pinpoint ball found Fitchett on the edge of the area, but his effort was dragged wide, and Salisbury led by just the one goal at half time.

Salisbury created again at the start of the second half, Aiden Elliott-Wheeler and Jaden Perez both forcing saves from Holden before there was a long break in play, as Hamza Semakula was stretchered from the pitch after being injured.

From the restart, Aveley put a high long ball forward down the right hand side, the ball was put into the danger area and steered home by David Kawa in the 74th minute.

Eleven minutes later, the home side led. David Hicks raced clear and smashed the ball past Rhys Byrne and into the back of the net in front of the home supporters.

Salisbury didn’t throw in the towel, though, and battled deep into injury time with Aiden Elliott-Wheeler firing over and the whites unable to turn in a low Finn Tonks cross.

Right in the last few seconds of the ten added minutes, Josh Sommerton rose highest as the ball came into the box and managed to smuggle the ball over the line to rescue a point for Brian Dutton’s side.
